Sakai Collaboration and Learning Environment (CLE) is a flexible, enterprise application that supports teaching, learning and scholarly collaboration in either fully or partially online environments environments. Sakai also has a robust and full-featured online portfolio system built-in. The Sakai CLE is distributed as free, open-source software, which offers the ultimate in flexibility and avoids the risks of vendor lock-in and escalating license costs.
The Sakai Project began in 2004 when Stanford, Michigan, Indiana, MIT and Berkeley began building a common Courseware Management System rather than continuing their homegrown systems or licensing software from a commercial vendor. Hence it is said that Sakai is designed by educators, for educators.
I came across this open source tool very recently and just wanted to know if any of our Learnhubbers tried their hands on this. For newcomers like me you can learn more about Sakai from their official website
